of Outreach Initiatives (Description of activities to fulfill the Initiative) First
Initiative
The
Cumulus Broadcasting, Bangor, Maine Internship Program Cumulus Broadcasting lists all Intern availability with: -The New
England School of Communications, Husson College, Bangor, ME This year, Operations Manager, Paul Dupuis, visited the campuses of both schools, making personal presentations that outline the Internship Program. Our Promotions Director, Michael O’Hara, distributes Job Description flyers and applications. He also created and maintains our active intern program throughout the year. This year, 4 interns participated. (Jolene Ledger, Melanie Marquis, and Brad Spencer ) Their job duties included: assisting the promotions department with remote broadcasts and contests. Working with/job shadowing full time announcers, writing commercial copy, participating in brainstorm sessions, and general office work in each department. Second Initiative Many of our local announcers speak at schools about careers in radio broadcasting throughout the school year. The morning announcers from WQCB and WBZN have participating in many “career day events” at middle and high schools across the region. Bangor, Brewer, Corinth, Stratton, Lincoln, ) · In the Spring Semester, The WQCB Morning team visited the University of Maine and spoke about their careers as well as our internship opportunities. · In April, our news director, Jodi Hersey, spent an evening at the New England School of Communications and participating in the News Careers Forum. · This spring, Paul Dupuis assisted the New England School of Communications with mock interviews in the senior career prep course. · On July 23, Paul Dupuis was a guest speaker at the New England School of Communication’s Maine Media Camp and spoke about the various careers in broadcasting. · On July 24th, we gave studio tours to students attending Maine Media Camp in Bangor. · Our Operations Manager, Paul Dupuis, is an adjunct instructor at the New England School of Communications. Cumulus also welcomes any organizations that wish to learn more about careers in broadcasting, to tour our facility. This year, we gave numerous tours to The New England School of Communications, Brownies, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, elementary schools, YMCA/YWCA youth groups, and many of our listeners. Third Initiative
· On June 4th, the Morning teams from WQCB and WBZN participating in a region wide career fair at the United Technologies Center in Bangor. ·
On October 25th, Cumulus Media participated in
the Maine Career Center’s the 10th annual “Employ Me” job
fair from 10 to 2. Cumulus
